Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) Ultrasound Screening

Fifty percent of people who have heart attacks and stroke had “normal” cholesterol blood tests.  For this reason, Dr. Weinstein uses the CIMT test to analyze blood flow and detect the presence of plaque and atherosclerotic disease of the carotid arteries.

The CIMT test is an FDA-approved Carotid Artery Ultrasound that:

  • Screens for cardiovascular disease, the #1 killer of men and women in the U.S.
  • Identifies risk for heart attack and stroke more accurately than traditional methods and is endorsed by The American Heart Association and The American College of Cardiology
  • is non-invasive and without radiation
  • is a quick, painless, 10- minute procedure

Dr. Weinstein combines these results with other data to create a customized prevention or treatment plan.  We will be able to track changes in your CIMT over time and test your responses to treatment.
